soccer
jace's first soccer game was a success. he thought it was great and even scored a few goals. he did, however, fall down a lot. and then he would lay there (maybe hoping for a foul to be called). and sometimes he would grab the ball so nobody could kick it while he was on the ground. definitely something that we will work on at practice.

on our walk to the park jace started to complain about his legs being tired and wanted someone to carry him. so i began to tell him about the pioneer children that had to walk a long way, farther than going to grandma tubbs' house. and when they got tired they just had to keep walking. at which point jace looks at me and says (in one of those voices), "i'm not a pioneer mom."
jace found his ctr ring that he lost a few months ago under the couch. so now he is trying really hard to choose the right, except when he is not wearing his ring.
me: "don't forget to choose the right jace"
jace: "i can't mom. i'm not wearing my ctr ring right now"
what do you think about a ctr tatoo on his finger?
this morning jace woke up before jared and i wanted to. so he says "mom, come look out the window at the weather. there is snow on the ground!" to which i drag myself out of bed to see (because it's not unusual to have 70 degree weather one day and snow the next in utah).
there is no snow on the ground (thankfully). but jace covers himself nicely and says, "there is some way over there on the mountain, mom." little stinker is pretty tricky and knows how to get what he wants.
and in other news, we are very much enjoying the sun and 70 degree weather. we spent most of the day outside yesterday and i came home with a slight sunburn and a pretty distinct line on my arms.
jared took his 8 hour pe (professional engineer) exam on friday and felt pretty good about it. we will find out in 12 weeks if he passed or not. here's hoping!
jace is playing tot soccer this year and jared is his coach. they had their first practice yesterday and had a lot of fun.
and mally just keeps getting fatter. seriously, she has the cutest little rolls on her legs that jace never had. we love it!

the jacinator

i know i've said this before but jace makes us laugh all the time. he loves to talk and talk and talk. and some of the things he says are pretty funny. and some things are very sweet.
he tells us frequently that he loves us. he prays for his little sister every night. and he tells everyone to be careful with mallory kate because she is still very delicate.
his favorite thing right now are stories. he will love you forever if you will tell him a story. it doesn't matter what it is about or if it is even interesting he just wants you to tell him a story. and he has started telling his own crazy stories.
a few things i have been meaning to write down. (and i do realize they may possible only be funny and cute to me.):
a couple of weeks ago we had to take jared to work. jared woke up jace and told him that he needed him to take him to work. to which jace replied, "but remember dad, i'm not old enough to drive yet."
mallory and i were going to a play one night and jared and jace were staying home. when it was time for me to go jace said, "but two girls can't go. one boy has to, so who's it going to be mom, me or daddy."
shortly after i had mallory jace asked me if i was a skinny mommy again and then said "nope not yet."
and he informed me the other day that he wouldn't get smashed flat like a pancake if a car hit him because 1 - he could just jump on the car or 2 - he would lay down under it so the wheel couldn't smash him. very logical to a three year old.
the night before easter jace told us that the easter bunny was going to bring jared a new computer and lots and lots of golf clubs and a "suit" to put them in for him. his expectations were a little high for the easter bunny and he had to settle for candy and one golf club (his first - a putter).

egg hunts...
...are not supposed to be in the snow and wind and cold.
and someone thought it would be funny to hide an egg on top of the door where no 3 to 4 year old would ever be able to retrieve it.

and yes, jace did have a pink bucket because i left his in utah.

having two kids is great. and tiring. and perfect. and messy. and wonderful. and exhausting. and completely rewarding.

nicknames
little mallory kate already has many nicknames. they include: mally kate, kate, mally cakes, miss mallory, tiny, squirmy wormy, mal-bear and princess. she has also been included in jace's role playing which lends itself to a whole list of names she is called. we just hope she'll figure out who she is.
