our little train engineer

So far we haven't celebrated Halloween with Jace. I like the holiday but am not a fan of the trick or treating. Jared just plain doesn't like it. We know that eventually he is going to want to celebrate it because of friends, school, etc. We are thinking that maybe he will get to have a Halloween party rather than go trick or treating or something like that. Or, maybe we will give in and just let him go trick or treating (my mom reminded me the other day that even though she didn't like it she never denied us the fun of going.)

I hadn't got him a Halloween costume since he doesn't really care about it yet and we weren't planning on going trick or treating. But yesterday I broke down and bought him one. It was our ward party and I decided that even though he really would have no idea I didn't want to look like the boring mom who doesn't let her kid dress up for Halloween. And the costume will go along with what he is getting for Christmas and go in his costume box.

For the few minutes that he wore it he did look adorable and made me want to take him out to celebrate Halloween.

photos

Just wanted to post this picture of Jace that I absolutely love. We were just hanging around thanksgiving point while we waited to go to Cornbelly's with Nicholas, Alyssa and Neil.

Yesterday Alyssa and Nicholas (my niece and nephew) came to get some pictures taken. Alyssa stayed the night since they are out for UEA. Jace had so much fun with Alyssa and loved that she was sleeping in his room with him. We didn't even have any problems with him getting out of bed. Maybe Alyssa should spend the night every night.

Just a few of my favorites from yesterday for their mom to see.

tomato soup

(This recipe comes from my Grandma Tubbs)
14 qts tomatoes

6 small onions-quartered
1 red bell pepper-chopped
6 green bell peppers-chopped
1 bunch of celery-sliced into chunks
1 small garlic clove-optional
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup salt
1/2 cup butter
1 cup flour

Cook tomatoes until soft. Cook all other vegetables in a small amount of water until soft. Run tomatoes and vegetables through a food mill, extracting all the juice. (You can add more water if needed.)

Put tomato and vegetable juice in a large stainless steel pot and bring to a boil. Add one cup sugar and 1/4 c. salt.

In a small sauce pan, melt 1 cube of butter and make a roux with 1 c. flour. Add water or tomato juice to make a thin paste. Add to tomato and vegetable juice. Cook and stir until thickened. (Can add more water or more flour if needed, depending on how thick you want it. )

Put in clean, sterile hot jars and seal. Hot water bath for 20 minutes.

"wall" worthy?

I've been wanting to do some "wall" worthy photos of Jace because, ya know, he's two and it's time to update. He actually cooperated fairly well for me today and was pretty cute (of course i'm a little biased, but that's my right as his mom). When I was picking out clothes (we tried on a few outfits) he would willingly put them on and then exclaim "so cute!" And then when we were walking around he would say things like "right here mom" or "let's find a new spot now"!

I love this kid way too much!

so maybe purple isn't a boy color but i love brightly colored walls, doors, whatever and that was the only bright color around

fall colors

Yesterday after conference (which by the way was very inspiring and uplifting - can't wait for the Ensign) we took a drive on the Alpine loop to see all the fall leaves. Beautiful and spectacular. I would highly recommend it to anyone. There were bright reds and oranges. Bright yellows against dark green. And the tops of the mountains were covered in snow. We stopped and walked around for a bit so that we could really enjoy it.

uncle jakey

Jace loves to play with his Uncle Jacob. They play trains and jump on the trampoline and chase each other. He is always so excited to see him when we go to Malad. Jacob is so good to play with him and be patient with him. He is quickly taking over the favorite uncle spot (sorry Devin).

This past week we went to watch Uncle Jacob play in his football game. This is his first year playing and has really enjoyed it. Jace had a good time watching him but had an even better time after the game when he got to play with Jacob. Jacob, thanks for being so great to play with Jace. He really loves you!
